I will look when I get home but I think it isn't too hard to do yourself. I sent my evil 10 round Number 4 down to NC with my friend but I have good pictures of it on my computer. Are you sure the peep sights are not original? I thought all Enfields came with peep sights? Or is this one obviously aftermarket?Aren't C&R rifles exempt from the new laws??? No this is deff a after-market peep that was added, not an origional Enfield peep.Yes,if you could please email me some pics that would be awesome, and please let me know how hard you think it would be to put the origional sight back on it.Thanks man.PMing my email address.
My original condition No. 5 jungle carbine has a peep sight but it can be flipped up to provide an elevating sight. Here is a picture in the and a source for a replacement. You didn't mention that you had the carbine in hand, just that you saw it; so maybe you saw it in the flipped down position. Replacement should just be a matter of removing a cross pin with a punch. Also, make sure it is not a 'Santa Fe carbine'. Santa Fe's were aftermarket No.4 modifications done in California during the 60's.
Lee Enfield Smle
Ill check mine out when I get home I have a 1945 all matching BSA. Its a sweet rifle. Like stated above they have a down and up position. Neither the SMLE nor the No.4 Enfield magazine holds over 10-rounds of.303 British. Just don't load over 7-rounds at home and you're good to go.The Indian made Ishapore mags can hold 12 rounds of.308 on some models, I wasn't sure which I had so I sent it on down. (after I got the rifle everything got banned, so I never got ahold of any.308 ammo to try and fill my mag) I know you can load just 7 and be ok but with the way things are going I don't trust anyone, all it would take is some government prick to arrest me and pop an extra 3 bullets into my mag to ruin my life with a felony conviction.
Nothing I own right now holds more then 7 so they can't even do that. Call me paranoid but I trust the government less and less by the second here. My original condition No.

And here is the sight I think I need?? Please let me know if I am on the right track. Sight looks like the right one. The JC had an 800 meter sight. The rifle looks really good.
A $1200 appraisal I personally think is to much. I paid $400 for mine. Mine isn't in as good of shape as that one but its numbers matching and is a BSA. You will like it they are a fun little rifle, they kick pretty good tho. PPU has decently priced 150gn 303 brit ammo.Yes I figured the appraisal was high as well, but I am getting it for 1/2 that and like you said it is in really good shape for it's age. It's numbers all match, all but the rear sight.Where did you see a good deal on.303 ammo??
