Engenius Locator
I have an Engenius WiFi Access Point in my backyard cabled to the ISP's router. I removed the password long ago but now want to put one on. The manual says to set the IP address manually in Wireless Network Connection Properties to 192.168.1.1 and use the generic user name and password when you get into the site. Cant get into the site.
Just times out in the browser. Entered ipconfig/all in command line and a similar IP address there takes me to the main router. I was on wireless connected to the Engenius when I tried. Its a few years old - could the address be obsolete? What specific Engenius AP is it? I don't know that brand well- are they all just Access Points or are some wireless routers?
Since it looks like most/all Engenius APs are only APs, not routers, I'll assume you just have an AP. Since your AP is already looked up to your ISP router, it's likely getting it's IP address from that router. You need to figure out what it is. Engenius has a locator tool that works with some AP models (and probably works with any model), but if you have a small network, you should be able to find it without installing any extra software. If when you ran ipconfig, you saw you have an IP address of the form: 192.168.1.XXX, then copy the following command into a command line window.
Set your computer back to obtain IP address automatically, turn off your wireless adapter, disconnect the AP from the router, connect your computer to the router with a cable. Open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all Copy and paste the data for your Ethernet connection here. Based on your posts above, your network is on the 192.168.0.XXX subnet, while your AP somehow has an IP address outside that subnet (192.168.1.1). I'm guessing you either inadvertently set up the AP with a static IP address, otherwise that's the default. You probably can't log into the AP because from its perspective, you're coming in from a different subnet. If, while connected via wifi, you manually set a 192.168.1.10 IP address on your laptop, I'm guessing you'll be able to log into the AP's WebGUI at 192.168.1.1. Once you get in, I would change the AP's IP address settings.

You can either let it grab a free IP using DHCP, otherwise you can assign a static IP in the 192.168.0.XXX subnet. The tricky thing about assigning a static IP is that you need to make sure its one that is outside your ISP router's DHCP range. So, you'd probably want to log into your ISP router and find the DHCP settings. (setting a low IP address, like 192.168.0.2 would probably work, but I've seen some routers that still have that in the DHCP range) If you use DHCP, then you don't need to worry about that, but you'd need to use the discovery tool to find it if you never need to log in to it.
Note that once you change the IP address settings on the AP (and apply them/reboot the AP), you'll need to remove them from your laptop as well. Then you'll need to either go to the static IP address you set, or use the discovery tool to find the AP's new IP. The.1 goes to ARRIS router setup page, the.24 and the.49 both 'unable to connect'. Will try reset after going out for some fresh air- Thanks to you both!
EnGenius locator program resets AP and finds lost IP address EnGenius locator program resets AP and finds lost IP address EnGenius just released a locator application that can find a access point on your local network. You may have lost the IP address or be unable to access the web interface from your computer. The program uses a broadcast to locate the device so you will need to either be connected to the unit directly or via a hub or switch. The program can even find the device if it is in bridge mode and connected back to your local network via WLAN.
